is a special satellite tracking initiative
currently underway where Toroa (the 500th chick to have successfully
hatched at the Colony) and
two other young birds were fitted with lightweight transmitters just before they
fledged in September 2007, which track their position by satellite every six
hours. more>> During the months April through to August the Colony is in the "Nesting & Feeding" part of the breeding cycle, where visitors can see some very cute chicks. more >> The sight of a soaring albatross is unforgettable - held aloft on slim wings up to 3 metres (9'6") across, the great Albatross is capable of swooping speeds of more than 115kph. Viewing these majestic seabirds in their natural environment is not to be missed.
